Romantic Vacay No More...Girls Trip Instead?

My husband and I were planning a trip to Secrets Guanacaste next May to celebrate my 40th and our 10-year anniversary. Instead, we're getting divorced. I'm still determined to go for my birthday, so I'm going to get some girls to go with me instead. Should we look for a different resort that maybe isn't geared toward couples? Any recommendations?

Yeah, Secrets is really, really couple-oriented. Probably 95% couples when we stayed and that may be a low estimate.

I'd probably look at posh hotels closer to town with other bars and restaurants, that way you're not locked into a scene if it's overrun with kids, or really obnoxious drunks, or both.

Sorry about the divorce, hope this can be the start of things turning around.

Just wanted to wish you good luck in your new life; glad you're still going to take the trip even if you have to change a few things. Happy early birthday!

Definitely change out the hotel. Does it have to be an all-inclusive as your choices are pretty limited in Costa Rica and most are either couple-oriented or family friendly in the extreme? A better choice with your girlfriends might be someplace like Tamarindo if you are flying into Liberia or Manuel Antonio if you fly into San Jose.

Tamarindo has a long surfing beach, lots of restaurants and nightlife and is roughly 75 minutes from the airport in Liberia. Tamarindo Diria is a large resort hotel right on the main beach in town with a number of restaurants onsite and an adult only pool with swimup bar. Take a look at other nearby options at: https:/…

Great attitude, but yes, skip the AI's all together and get out and explore Costa Rica.

If you have a group, I would go to Tamarindo and rent a house. You should get some good rates in May.
