I love to bird. Any suggestions for a guided tour to go birding as we are staying in Palencia, Belize?
I see I started a bad trend, with the
incorrect spelling of Placencia : )
I'm not a bird watcher (at least the winged variety), but you might look at these ideas...
Mayflower Bocawina National Forest,
Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (run by the Belize Audubon Society),
Belize Audubon Society.
Definately Cockscomb/Jaguar Preserve with over 535 species of birds. Scarlet macaws congregate in Red Bank certain times of the year and are incredible to see, so ask if they will be present while you are visiting.
Katie - Is the Red Bank/macaw season January to March? I think I read that somewhere. We'll be in Belize in late March a year from now and wonderful if it might be an opportunity for us to pursue or if we'd be too late.
I think it all depends on the rains and when the trees what draw them fruit, but I can certainly find out for you closer to the date
Check with Basilio Mes at www.exoticBelize.com He is an awesome birding guide.
