Will we be able to swim and snorkel from the beach? I thought it was possible in Placencia/Maya Beach? At least from piers? We were hoping we could just get out in the water from our hotel? (Maybe Maya Beach.)

Thanks so much, for any responses.

Swim yes, but the closest place to snorkel off Maya Beach is False Caye, about a mile kayak paddle from shore. Otherwise, snorkeling on the reef and many islands about 19 miles off shore.

Swimming and snorkeling from shore are marginal, but several resorts do have piers. I have snorkeled off the pier at Chabil Mar Villas and had a relaxing interesting event, in about ten foot of water. There isn't much of any coral right off the beaches along Placencia. Must go to the offshore islands for the best of that.

That being said, the water is beautiful off the beaches and a beginner snorkeler will have some fun exploring just offshore.
