Does anyone know how to get from San Ignacio to Belize Zoo (on a bus)?

Thank for your help!

The buses leave every half hour from Cayo to Belize. You'd simply tell the driver to let you off at the zoo. Maybe remind them as you leave Belmopan. The zoo is right on the highway. When you're done with the zoo, you just catch the next bus. It'll be around $5bz per person for the trip. Piece of cake!

DrFA has the answer, but I'll just add some more details...

In San Ignacio, get a bus going to Belize City. They depart every 30 minutes, and "Belize City" or just "Belize" will be displayed in the front window of the bus.

The bus will make a scheduled stop at the Belmopan bus terminal. Stay on the bus. About 10 minutes after leaving Belmopan, you should be at the zoo.

Make sure you tell the driver or conductor to drop you at the zoo -- it might help to sit near the front of the bus.

After getting off the bus, cross to the other side of the highway and walk along the track (less than 5 minutes) to the zoo entrance.

After your visit, walk back to the highway and wait for a bus. When you see one coming, wave your arm up & down and it should stop. Check the sign in the front window of the bus and see the final destination of the bus -- it will be either Benque or Dangriga. If it's Dangriga, you'll have to change in Belmopan. If the bus is going to Benque, it will make a stop in Belmopan and continue to San Ignacio so stay on the bus.

You can take the "Belize" bus. There is a bus every half an hour that leaves form the terminal in San Ignacio. When you get on the bus, the conductor will be coming down the aisle collecting the bus fare. When it is your turn, tell him that you will be going to the Belize Zoo. It shouldn't cost you more than US$4 per person. You will arrive in Belmopan in about 50 minutes after you cross the suspension bridge. After the bus leaves Belmopan, the Belize zoo is about 15 to 17 miles away.

One good thing to note is that if you take cameras with you, they do not allow any lens with a longer focal length than 300mm. They also would not allow you to take in tripods without special permission.

Cayo- great help. Thanks so much for the details as I have a long lens & was completely unaware of the policy!

Am I safe to assume busses between San I, Belmo & Belize City pretty much run every 30 minutes? Does it vary by day of the week?

THANKS!

If it's a holiday, then they'll run every hour, and sometimes there are less buses on Sundays.
