Did you find one? I have the same question
One car rental in Belmopan on this Yellow Pages list...
Whatever you do - do not use the Belize Car Rental company https://www.belizeautorental.com - your life depends on it! We rented an SUV from them to travel from Belize City to San Ignacio and after travelling only 2 hours on paved roads and 1 mile on a dirt road, the rusted suspension broke and the back wheel FELL OFF as we were driving! We were so lucky not to be going very fast and therefore not injured. The company says we shouldn't have been on that road but they actually gave us a map to our destination. The company refused to give us our money back even after sending us an email that said they were sorry for giving us an old, unsafe vehicle. They may have cheaper rates, but this company is NOT a reputable rental company in any way!
Good morning and thanks for thinking about Belmopan on your trip in June. Actually there is a taxi driver who offers car rental with pretty nice older vehicles and at ok rates around US$ 70 per day - Car rental in general in Belize is higher than other places but our customers have rented a few SUV's off him last year and always a pleasant experience. His name is Mr Vasquez 604-6349- He is a very genuine soul and his vehicles are very clean, The other other option is Motor Solutions and you can contact mrodriguez@motorsolutions.com - this is Marleni and she is the main person in the reception area who schedules services etc but will connect you to Jose Chacon who would handle the rentals - it's a very professional sales and service garage on the link road just on the outskirts of the main city and they rent out their Mahindra rugged pick ups (bear in mind that these are stick shift not automatic) i think price is around US$ 90 per day. We have had the same vehicle from new from them an it is a go anywhere off road beast with not bad fuel consumption. The only other one i know is the Manager of Westrac Delmer Deuck who has a few vehicles for rent including a large Toyota Sequoia again i think around the same price as the other two mentioned above. He can be reached through the auto supply store Wetrac on Forest Drive. Apart from these i don't know of any other car rentals in the City. Always good to check the insurance and road license stickers on the front of the windscreen even renting off the larger branded car rentals at the airport to ensure tax and license are good through to the end of your rental as there are often road side checks. If you need accommodation or other ideas for your trip do let me know and i will be happy to pass along information. There is a transport company that offers private airport transfers as well if you need a ride from the airport located in Belmopan info@belize-transfers.com and also there is a new shared shuttle service from the airport and i am sure they would do a drop off on the way to Placencia or San Ignacio - contact William Hoffman Belize Shuttle (there are two companies with the same name so make sure you are talking to William in San Ignacio) BelizeShuttle@yahoo.com - Moving about locally there are a gazillion taxis in the city and the city has a busito device (little vans) connecting to all the local villages day time and the main buses which operate until a little later in the evening from some destinations. Last big buses from Belize City are about 9 pm. If you need any other help feel free to reach out - we love having visitors to our little city and June is a lovely time to visit.
Hi Lara I just posted a long post about car rentals in Belmopan please see my reply to the person you reacted to for more information, anything us feel free to reach out - Belmopan is such a wonderful little city.Kind regards
Thanks vanilla_custard for the advise! We called Mr Vasquez after motorsolutions didnt have any cars available.
Everything went very well, we drove a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Mr Vasquez for 3 days. Although a bit beat-up on the outside, the car performed perfectly! And Mr Vasquez was very kind and helpfull.
Dont be afraid if the rental process comes across as a bit unorganized, and if the cars do not look tip-top from the outside. This man can be trusted and he will probably be able to help you when you need a rental car.
So glad it all worked out for you. All the cars I saw of his before were pretty tidy so a bit surprised to hear your vehicle was beaten up but we are in peak season so possibly all the other larger ones were out. Hoopelijk Jullie hebben een vortreffelijk vakantie in Belize gehad, bedankt voor de bezoek en niet vergeet iedereen te vertellen over de triple!
Hello Vanilla_Custard,
Does Mr. Vasquez have an area code? Calling from the US always needs a country code or area code.
Thanks in advance!
No area code. Use 501 for country code, then the number.
