We are supposed to leave Friday August 5 and the homeowner that we rented from in San Pedro told us that estimate for power and water to return is 2 week....I'm scrambling now to find another vacation for 11 haha

275 helpful votes I haven't the impact of the storm but I'd look into West End on Roatán if you need to book somewhere else - it doesn't sound like they had much impact from Earl.
Edited: 4 years agoWe just spoke to our resort and power was restored this morning. All activities including reef dives are resuming as well. Go! Enjoy your trip and congratulations.

3 helpful votes We have power and internet. The island always pulls together and bounces back as fast as it can.
Yay!! Good to hear that power is restored down there. Hope all of you in Belize are faring well. We will be down there this Wednesday! Looking forward to the trip!
So not to much issues for someone going next week?
Where are you staying? We are in San Ignacio 8/10-13, but cancelled our reservation to Caye Caulker from 8/13-17, since the island is pretty devastated. Any tips for our second half? We were hoping for beaches.

238 helpful votes I would reschedule or book Riviera Maya. We are here now . The power is out again, which means no AC or running water - it's very hot and very humid. There is a ton of standing water everywhere so the mosquitos and biting insects are NUTS!! We are using 25% Deet and mosquito coils and still being bit. Many restaurants are closed, the ones that are open have a limited menu and the attitude of the wait staff is drab at best. A lot of people lost a lot and frankly have very little patience to deal with travelers special requests. Many piers where the tour boats docked their and ran their businesses are gone. The town and beach is full of debris.
We were scheduled for a snorkel today, locally at Hol Chan Shark Ray alley and because their pier/dock/business office was washed away by the hurricane, they will not be resuming snorkel trips for a few days. The winds have been wild and the ocean is choppy, we understand a new storm is forming. I would not come here right now if it were free.
Happy..sorry about your trip...we did not have a hurricane but if I got a free trip would not return to Belize!
