No meat, fruits or dairy without a permit to import from BAHA, but most other packaged items are fine

I would assume that a few cans of tuna would not be confiscated as it is a "meat product"?

If you are doing the mainland at all on your trip look up Running W for ribs. They are a local meat producer and have a restaurant on the mainland that is supposed to be excellent.

You can get Running W meat at the new place behind the Phoenix, across from where Mathieu's used to be. I'll remember the name as soon as it's too late to edit my post :~)

painnurse, the cans of tuna will likely not be confiscated but bringing fish to Belize is kind of like bringing sand to the beach.

If you're in Cayo, then you can eat at the Running W Steakhouse. It's located in the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. There's also the Barn & Grill, on the Western Highway, and they have ribs and steaks from RW too.

What about sealed packages of beef jerky?

Would this be a banned "meat" item to bring as snacks?

I always find that one of the joys of travel is to try the local food. If I want the food I have at home, why travel? I found the food in Belize very good and tasty. The fresh fish was outstanding, the local coffee great, the local meat highly acceptable, the local snack bits and pieces very tasty, the fruit and veg fresh and delicious. The selection of pepper sauces ranges from mild to so dangerously strong it could perform a tonsillectomy. A few bottles of Marie Sharpe's assorted pepper sauces will make a great souvenir. Cheese is expensive, San Pedro is the only place in the world where I have seen cheese sold by the ounce At least all the menus are in English so you can see what you are ordering and buying.

Leave your food quirks at home and enjoy the food in Belize.
