A reasonably priced hotel for one person, safe & clean?

I am a woman traveling alone and would like a good place to stay on Ambergris for a week in January.

I don't want luxury but I do want my own bathroom, a somewhat quiet area so I can sleep, and a safe area so I can walk around.

My budget is about $60 or below, if possible.

Does anyone have a good recommendation? Thanks!

Here's a short list of beach front properties on Ambergris that should be in your price range. The only two I've seen the rooms at are Ruby's and Hotel del Rio.

Ruby's, the room I saw was pretty decent. But, I've heard again and again that it's noisy.....

Conch Shell. I had friends stay here one year, they complained of early morning noise from the dock out front getting ready for divers. Personally, early morning noise wouldn't bother me as much as late night noise.

Spindrift, Tio Pils, I don't know much about either.

Hotel del Rio is a bit further from the center of town. Has regular rooms and some cabanas. All are very clean. If I was looking for budget places to stay, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there.

I would not stay at Hotel Del Rio as a single, female traveler. I have never stayed there, but been by there many times at night, always seems really dark around their property at night, they should really invest in some security lights for their guest.

I'm never by there at night. That would certainly be a consideration.

Not sure if they have added lights or not but tacoboy and I did notice recently that it looks like they have been doing maintenance and fixing Hotel Del Rio up a bit.

I always stuck with the SunBreeze when I used to visit here when living on the mainland.

I recommend Spindrift, or Ruby's. They are both great, yet different. Ruby's has more of a backpacker feel.

Pedros has hotel rooms for 50 a night and they have a security guard on all night.

Thanks to all of you who replied with some great suggestions!

I would worry about Hotel del Rio and the darkness & safely. I will have to investigate this before I consider it.

Meanwhile, I'll look into the other ideas. Thanks again!

I wouldn't walk to Pedro's alone at night. It's not far from downtown, but, I just wouldn't walk it at night. A cab ride would be cheap though.

I'd rather be on the beach....

I have stayed at Spindrift and it gets my vote: within budget, great location on the beach and an easy walk to either Ramons or Fido's. I have not been for a few years though, so I would check their recent reviews for the condition of their rooms, staff, service etc; all of which were great last time I was there.
