In 2005 we went to Caye Caulker for beach time and San Ignacio for jungle time. Here's a link to our web site and the trip report for Caye Caulker. There is a link for the SI portion of the trip at the end of the report. There's several pictures as well.

The Belize link on the left will take you to the other trip reports and pics if you want. They will give you an idea of one approach. We found it to be safe and like Belize in general.

If you go to the Belize link, look also at Ambergris Caye 2008. Its more developed than Caulker but we prefer CC. The trip reports will give you an idea why.

Caulker and San Ignacio is the best bet. Caulker doesn't have the traffic and congestion that Ambergris has, and it's cheaper in most all aspects. San Ignacio is great for jungle excursions like Mountain Pine Ridge and ATM. Caracol and Tikal are some good ruins that are close enough for day trips. And you can rent cars by the day in SI if you want to do things at your own pace.

If you'll be in San Ignacio for any length of time, check out the Best of Cayo webpage for the best food, tours, etc.

It's quite safe for tourists here in Belize.

Have a great vacation!
