Laid back sw Fla destination last week of March

My wife and I (mid-50's) are considering making a trip to sw Florida the last week of March. Our sole objective is to sit on the beach for five days and do nothing---that is we're not interested in nightlife, shopping, theme parks, etc. Just looking for a quiet, laid back relaxed destination to escape the dreary late winter in Chicago. We've only been to Florida once about 30 years ago--Tampa/Sarasota.

We are not looking for luxury accomodations--trying to stay within a budget--a simple cottage, studio, or effiency motel would work just fine--even renting a tralier--trying to stay under $150/night, which might be tough given the time of year we are trying to go. Don't like chain motels--looking for a mom and pop with local character.

Some places we saw that might work are Anna Maria, Englewood, Sanibel--does any one have any other suggestions? Any suggestions for accomodations--inexpensive, could be quirky or even slightly dumpy--we're not real picky. Also willing to split up the time between several destinations. Any help, advice greatly appreciated.

March is very busy but you might try Queens Gate or Tropic Isle.

You might also consider Venice. Very laid-back small town. In your search, keep in mind you can fly into airports in Punta Gorda or Ft. Myers to help you complete your laid-back vacation if you don't want to deal with Tampa.

Check out mid-island and south-island of Fort Myers Beach, it's very lay back. Look at www.westcoastalrentals.com. I also suggest a condo. Holiday Inn might work for you, it southern location and on widest part of the beach. Lover's Key Park is very beautiful and lay back. Rates will be much higher on Sanibel island.

Two "olde Florida" places to check out: Island House Motel and Suntan Terrace. They're both at the very southern end of Casey Key, quite near Venice, and they are within your price range at this time of year. Definitely not fancy, but right on the water.

If you decide on Manasota Key check out "The Manasota Beach Club. "

MBC is a cottage style resort owned by the same family for the last fifty years,

they feature fine dining in the high season. The club sits on 25 private acres

with a private beach, heated pool and tennis courts.
