Looking for Specific Things To Do in August

Traveling to Aspen for a week in early August. There are 3 couples going. We are in our 50's and fit for our age and looking for some fun things to do. Specifically I would like to know if there is someplace to rent bikes. It seems like having a bike in Aspen would be a fun way to see the town and do some off-roading. Would like to do a couple of hikes (and/or bike/hikes), hot springs, rafting and would like to know more about Music Festival. Any suggestions or must do's would be appreciated. Also suggested outfitters and nightlife, restaurants! Thanks so much!!!

The Aspen Music festival is wonderful. You can see the concerts either by purchasing tickets and sitting inside the music tent or you can bring a blanket, sit out on the lawn and enjoy a picnic. The latter is what most locals do. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. There is a great restaurant (Plato's) walking distance from the tent where you can have dinner after the concert. Here's a link to the concert calendar. https:/…

As for rafting there are a few outfitters in town and a variety of trips depending on your comfort level. aspenchamber.org/what-to-do/…

You can hike to Conundrum Hot Springs or if you have a car and don't mind a day trip out of Aspen go to Carbondale which is downvalley and hit either the penny hot springs (free) or Avalanche Ranch. http://avalancheranch.com/the-pools/

Hope this helps.

Summer in Aspen is amazing.

Music- more than you can shake a stick at. Music festival is going strong in early August. Sunday morning rehearsals of full orchestra are excellent and high value. Thursday night free (rock-pop) concerts in Snowmass Village, Belly Up Aspen has major acts (night club). Aspen Santa Fe Ballet is excellent. Often free Physics lectures with renowned speakers.

Biking- 40 mile bike trail from Aspen to Glenwood Springs. Can ride as far as you want and take bus with bike racks back or bike bus on weekends. Snowmass has lift served mountain biking that offers variety of levels of skill. Numerous bike rental options.

Hiking- there are great hikes right in Aspen and too many in the forest to pick one. Chamber site has info or go to USFS office on western edge of town for advice.

Rafting- by August, Roaring Fork in Aspen will be getting low. There is still some rafting there but it is better in Glenwood in my opinion in August. An alternative is to go to Arkansas River and do Brown's Canyon. It includes a nice drive over Independence Pass without renting a car. Blazing Paddles is an excellent local outfitter that can offer Aspen, CO River, or Arkansas River trips. If you have a car, driving to Glenwood and using Whitewater Rafting will likely save $$.
