Maroon Bells Adventure Hike ~ July

Hello! I an trying to put together a 4 or 5 day adventure with a day hike of Maroon Bells being the focus, anything else will be a bonus. We are from Kansas City and have not spent any time in Colorado. I need help in trying to budget our time. Should we spend the whole time in Aspen? Should we fly to Denver and rent a car? Tripadvisor helped tremendously last year when we hiked in Zion and Bryce. Thank you!!

Wow! That is beautiful, also. I have read some hikers go from Maroon Bells all the way to Crested Butte...spend the night in town and hike back? Too much for me but how long does it take one way?

It varies on the route (there are several), time of year, and fitness level.

Another option on the CB side is to pedal up the road on a mountain bike to Schofield Pass or the Schofield townsite. I would not recommend going much beyond the Judd Falls and Washington Gulch trailheads (a mile or so past Gothic) in a passenger car, especially a rental. That said, it's not particularly difficult to do on a mountain bike but it is certainly a lung buster. Yet another popular option is to pedal to gothic or the nearby trailheads from Mt. CB (an easy pedal) and then take a day hike in the Maroon Bells (AKA "hike-a-bike"). Here's a view of the Maroon Bells on the road between Gothic and the top of Schofield Pass (start of the 401 trail).

Yes Aspen is spendy for sure. CB might well be a better fit. If not have you looked at

https://www.airbnb.com/s/Aspen--CO I have found airbnb to be a pretty good deal all the way around.
