Disneyland parks for MLK weekend 2013

We have 4 adults and 3 boys (4, 6, 7) going to Disney on Jan. 18 and 21. We are wondering if we should consider adding another day for the parks on Sat, Jan 19 due to the holiday weekend and increased crowds? Saturday is the only day we could add if we did a third day.

I want to make sure there is enough time to enjoy the new attractions and get a full experience but I don't like the idea of a crowded Saturday at the park.

Any suggestion on what you think would be best...sacrifice patience for another day?

Thank you!

Welcome to the Forums cadym.

Unfortunately not only is it a busy Holiday weekend for MLK, there is also the Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland taking place on Jan 20, 2013 so its going to be very busy at Disneyland that weekend.

If you cant reschedule, Its really up to you whether you want to add another day. But, you will likely need that extra day, and bring along some patience with you for lines. I would deffinately try not to be in Disneyland on that Sunday.

Here more info on the free Fastpass system at Disneyland which should be helpful in case you are not familiar with it. Right now Disneyland has not been enforcing if you return later than your return time to use the Fastpass.

You can also use something such as the free Mousewait app which can be helpful knowing what the lines look like.

Or get something inexpensive like RideMax which can help you maximize your time in the Parks.

Best advice when its busy at Disneyland is to arrive about 30 min before the Park opens so you can get inside when Disneyland opens as there is the lowest wait times of the day on most rides that first few hours after opening time. So its a good idea to visit the rides ect you are most interested in then, and pick up a Fastpass for a busier ride to use later. Rides with Fastpasses usually have the longer lines.

If you need help finding somewhere to stay still, you can give us a budget per night and what your requirements are, although its such a busy weekends, you may have trouble finding somewhere to stay near to Disneyland.

If you decide to get a 3 day Parkhopper, there is a discount right now on them at the Disneyland.com website, so they are basically only $20 more than a 2 day Parkhopper. However, it must be purchased online before your visit, as its not available at Disneyland.

Both saturday and sunday will be very busy at the parks that weekend. The 5K family run is Saturday morning and the Tinkerbell half marathon is the Sunday. Saturday is usually the busier day or the two but that wekend, it will be crazy all the way through with Monday being a holiday.
