Disneyland on 28/29 January - Best things to do?

We are a family of four from Australia, coming to Disneyland for the firs time. Very excited, but also a bit nervous about the long lines to see/do everything, esp when it's already costing over $800! We will have one magic morning, and also be able to access to park in the afternoon/evening of sunday 27th Jan. Think that's the only night that the Colour show will be on? Do we need to buy the picnic food to get in, or can we just line up to get a spot? Does buying the food guarantee a better seated area?

My girls are 6 and 10 so want to make sure we get the best experience for them without waiting for hours on all the rides!!

Thanks....

Hi.

I would suggest purchasing Ridemax. It's a computer program that you put in which rides etc you want to do, and it will give you an itinerary to follow. It will give you breaks etc and is easy to follow. We found it invaluable when we went in busy August.

For World of Color, if you are doing this on the first evening, you should buy the picnic dinners to get passes. They were very yummy. The only other way to get passes (apart from purchasing a meal) is to get to California Adventure early in the morning on the day you want to go. Seeing you won't be there until afternoon, the picnic lunches would be cheapest and easiest.

The passes will get you into a certain area, where you will stand to watch the show (no seats). You also need to line up quite early to get a good view.

You will have a ball. Get there early, use Ridemax and don't stress about the lines.

Have fun!

Heres the Schedule at Disneyland for your dates. Unfortunately Fireworks as well as Fantasmic show would not be showing during your visit.

…go.com/calendar/#/default/2013/01/28-

Just be aware, Jan 27th is likely to still be very busy at Disneyland since its the last day of a very Large Music Convention, NAMM at the Anaheim Convention Center, which is across the street from Disneyland.

As said, you really have only a few options if you only have 1 day to see the World of Color show, including a dinner ( that comes with a Fastpass in a preffered area) and picnic meal that for convenience has a World of Color Fastpass.

Or, you can try to get a Fastpass for the show when you arrive, its possible they may still have some, The Fastpass for World of Color Is located at the Grizzley River Run Fastpass area till they are gone for the day.

You can also get a partial view of the show near the Paradise Pier area with no Fastpass, but, If you want to be in the viewing area ( which is standing room only) you would need to have a Fastpass.

Heres more info.

You can also take advantage of the free Fastpass system at Disneyland.

You should be aware that Australian and New Zealand residents can purchase a special 14 day Disneyland Pass for about the same cost as a 5 day Parkhopper till March 31 of 2013. Its available through a travel agent in that area, or, for less for Australian residents through Expedia Australia

Where are you planning on staying?

Thanks so much to you both for your comments and suggestions. I checked out the Ridemax site and it looks really good. Think it could be worth it to have a plan, rather than wandering around not knowing what to go to next. Love a plan!!

We are staying just across the road at the Ramada Maingate, so hope this makes it easier to get there on time, and also if we want to come back for a nap in the afternoon! Am getting really excited, as are the kids. Can't wait for this trip!

Bit disappointed that Fantasmic and fireworks won't be on, but am sure we'll have a good time anyway. We've just been to the city for the NYE fireworks in Sydney, which are some of the best in the world, so don't think missing out on Disney fireworks will be a big deal :)

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.

I would suggest asking for a recently updated room at the Ramada Inn Maingate when you check in or before, as they have been doing some improvements to some of the regular rooms there. Or, if you have reserved a Premium room, those are the nicest. Alot of the rooms at this Motel are in sore need of some rennovating and repair.

You are in about a 9 min walk from the Motel to the Turnstiles that actually go into Disneyland.

Heres a Map of Hotels and restaurants in the Disneyland area so you can see where your Motel is located. The Disneyland Main Entrance is off of Harbor Blvd near where it says "East Shuttle area" on the Map.
