Some school sessions run year round on a "track" system, but most schools are "off track" by the last week of June/beginning of July. The third week in June is usually when DLR begins their extended operating hours (8 a.m to 12 midnight each day of the week) and peak season begins. But that week is probably less crowded than any of the following weeks and with extended hours and added entertainment, plus nice weather (cool mornings), it should be nice.
I believe the way that Grad Nite affects things is the DL will close earlier on select nights to have special parties just for graduating classes.
Opps, forgot to add that late May (usually around the last weekend) has a holiday - Memorial Day - which is considered to be the unoffical start of summer even though schools may still be in session. DLR and all beaches should be crowded on that weekend.
High school graduations start around mid may and go through mid june. It startsd slowly in may but really picks up in June when many high schools have graduation.
If you can go the 3rd week in May the crowds will be better than they are after Memorial Day and then into JUne.
Most midwest schools are out for the summer by May 20. A few go into the first week of June. Graduation is a week or two sooner. Back to school mid/late August.
Our graduation is May 22nd - with the elementary schools letting out right at Memorial Day weekend. So there is more than likely a crush of Zonies heading California way after all of that - heck, for that matter we'll probably be there in June as a grad present for our daughter!
