Anaheim to Las Vegas??

We are staying in Anaheim for 14 nights in Sept and was thinking of driving to Las Vegas for 2 nights. Is it worth the drive, we are 2 ads and 2 ch - ages 11 and 8. Are the kids too young to bother with LV? And other than the casinos is there anything worth doing there?

You can drive but it will take 4-5 hours and over 1/2 of that is ALL desert. Right now Southwest Airlines is offering very low rates to Vegas from Orange County/John Wayne Airport for about $100 roundtrip. Flight time is about 1 hour, 20 minutes.

There are things for the kids to do in Vegas but these days it seems to be more geared for adults. There's Circus Circus Hotel and an indoor theme park called Adventureland I think.

See Vegas.com for other great info. Almost forgot to mention that there is a Las Vegas forum. Look under state of Nevada.

I would do it for sure, Las Vegas is fantastic. I would drive, it is an easy 4 hour drive, you should have little trouble with traffic if you leave mid morning. Pick a hotel with a good pool in Sept, Mirage, Mandalay Bay , MGM or Monte Carlo would be good. There is a bunch of stuff do to and see just walking around.

HI,

I am also going to Anaheim in sept for 9 days and then on to Vegas. So is driving to Vegas safe if there is just the 2 of us?

We have been holidaying in the USA from Wales UK since 1990 when we had two children aged 6 and 17 months. We now have three boys - 23, 17 and 15, and have been to California/Arizona area 8 times and will be returning (only with 15 year old this time) in July/August. again

We have done the Anaheim - Las Vegas drive 2/3 times. No problem; it's part of the fun and your children will love LV as many of the casino hotels are also mini theme parks. I think that 14 nights in Anaheim may be a bit too much and perhaps you should reconsider so that you have an opportunity to see and do more. Happy to give info on what we have done previoulsy if you like.

Capricorn80, I have no idea why you think the journey would be unsafe for two people. You need to be sensible herever you drive but I have to say, we have not exoerience any problems driving across California, Arizona, Utah, Florida. One thing to remember in order to 'be safe' is to make sure you have plenty of water to drink when driving across the desert and that you car has sufficient fuel.

Go for it; fantastic experience and I can't wait for July!

Wow I just noticed too she said "14 nights in Anaheim." That is a bit much indeed. Might want to lower than to 4-5 days and then either go north towards Los Angeles or Santa Barbara along the coast. Towards the south is San Diego with all of its attractions including Legoland for the kids, Sea World, Tijuana just across the border, etc.

Lots of cool cities to stay in including Carlsbad, Oceanside, etc.

If you've never been to Vegas then try 3-4 nights. After that you are on sensory overload.

I *highly* recommend seeing The Blue Man Group at The Venetian. They are the weirdest but yet entertaining gig on The Strip.

Tix are $126 and up for the best seats. I suggest sitting in the Orchestra section. You won't regret it.

We are just basing ourselves in anaheim for the 14 nights. We intend to do 2/3 days disney, 1 day Knotts berry, 1 day hollywood tour, 1or 2 days beach, 1 day lego land, at least 2 days shopping as my 11 yr old and I are both shopaholics and even my husband likes shopping. then over to Las Vegas for 2/3 days so that doesn't leave much free time but will gladly take any advice on doing things differently.

I'd say go to vegas, great place.

The drive is easy and quite interesting (for us brits).

I agree that 14 days is too long but it seems you have planned it well and have a full itinery. You could drive there and fly back as I have just got my one way tickets for $55. Less than a tank of fuel !

we have done vegas and anaheim every year for the past 4 years.

usually 3 days is enough for us.

circus circus is a great place for kids they also have the adventure dome theme park there.

about a block down from circus circus theres a small water park.

I believe its called wet n wild. I cant really recall seeing it open last year though.

new york new york has an area where the kids can play.

arcade type of games.

you can also walk across to the mgm grand from there. inside mgm theres a rain forest cafe is pretty cool for kids and a few steps away they have a lion habitat. you can see the lions through glass the even walk over you that was my kids highlight.

you might want to try out the stratosphere as well. the shops are great and the view is awsome.

the mirage has a few attractions...

dolphins, white tigers, aquarium, volcano.

Take a walk in the venetian. its really nice and a great shopping place.

theres a beautiful aquarium at silverton hotel.

mandalay has a shark reef.

well i thik this is enough to keep you busy for days.

theres lots to do you just need to do your reasearch.

by the way my kids are younger then yours right now there 4 and 7.

my 7 year old has always enjoyed it since the age of 3 =)
