Trip from NY to Yellowstone

My family decided to plan a trip from NY (Oneonta) to Yellowstone National Park. We will have 22 adults and 7 kids. We are looking for the most cost effective but enjoyable way to travel. We are planning two weeks so we can make some stops along the way. I'm looking for advice on modes of travel (train, RV, etc) and different sites to see along the way. We are planning this vacation for the summer of 2015.

Charter a bus. Lay out the route to places you want to see, talk to the driver about distances per day and plan your stops.

Welcome to the forum Tami,

From Oneonta, NY to Yellowstone is around 2300 miles, each way, with no detours for sight seeing along the way. That would take 38 hours or 3+ days of driving each way, again with little or no stopping, except for necessities. As you can see from that, moving that many people together, over a distance such as that , would be quite an undertaking. As RM_MN suggested, a charted coach might be about the best way to do it, and possibly the only way. However it would not be inexpensive, and a bus, even a "coach" is not the most comfortable way for 30 people to travel cross country. You might check with some of the big tour companies, like Globus, or Collette, etc., to see if they offer a charter service that would fit your needs. A local travel agent might also be able to help you put something together.

Professional entertainers and sports teams do that as a way of life, but they have mega budgets to work with, and travel professionals to put all of the details together for them. In addition some of those folks are only interested in getting from point to point, non-stop, with a professional driving as they sleep, eat, "live" aboard the coach. For anyone not familiar with booking group travel over long distances, the logistics of doing so would be interesting, to say the least.

Good luck, and a follow-up trip report would be nice to let everyone know how it all went.
