Southern Wisconsin Camping?

My boyfriend and I want to do a one-night camping trip this weekend. We are coming from Chicago, and do not want to travel too far into Wisconsin, but also want to have a nice little camping trip. Does anyone have any campsite recommendations? Kettle Moraine-South is already booked:(

You could try here, Snug Harbor on Turtle Lake. It is a private campground, just north of Delavan.

Check out the following websites:

…wi.gov/org/…findapark.html (click on park names on map to get details)

…wi.gov/org/LAND/parks/partners/coparks.html

Many of these campgrounds have non-reservable, walk up sites. I've personally had luck doing the walk up thing in state parks on weekends, but I always have a plan B, and C, just in case.

Ottawa Lake is a great place to go, and not too far into the state, and a gorgeous area to be in.

All of the state parks are booked! Does anyone have any other recommendations for private campsites in southern wisconsin that would still provide a nice experience?

I am not a camper, but it does not surprise me that all the State parks are booked, especially for a Holiday week end.

I found this website that lists private campgrounds. Maybe this will help. http://www.wisconsincampgrounds.com/

It's not Wisconsin, try Rock Cut SP outside of Rockford.

I got this advice from another camper. Keep checking on the State Parks. They do get open sites because of late cancellations.
