Secluded camping?

Our family of 3 is looking for secluded tent camping in April or May within a 2 hr drive of the eastern panhandle area of WV, preferably near a river or lake for fishing, w/ boat or canoe rentals available, & campfires permitted. Primitive sites are preferred, but not required. I tried looking on tourism sites & other online searches but was overwhelmed & we would love personal recommendations. Thanks for your help!

I've heard good things about this campground. It is certainly off of the beaten path, is in the Eastern Panhandle, and located on the South Branch of the Potomac River (which is an absolutely beautiful area). http://www.millesonscampground.com/

The Cove in Gore, VA might work for you. We go every year with friends and have a blast. There are plenty of campsites to choose from and a lake for swimming. It is right on the edge of VA and WVA.

I'm a big fan of the site Hiking Upward. There is a map that shows all of the hikes they list here: http://www.hikingupward.com/maps/full_map.asp

Find Spruce Knob on the map (highest point in WVA) and there are some cool hikes/camping there. Or just click around on the map and see if something fits your needs. A great canoe trip is between Moorefield WV and Romney through the Trough on the South Branch of the Potomac River. You can get boats from the guy who owns the Trough General Store http://www.wvcanoerentals.com/location.htm SUPER nice people. It is a gorgeous stretch of river.
