Parking a passenger van

Hello,

We are bringing a group of girls from Girl Scouts to DC for the day from Maryland (girls are actually coming from WV but we are spending the night in Sandy Spring MD first). We are driving two 15 passenger vans. Our main destination will be the Smithsonian Natural History M. We don't mind riding the metro so what would be the best place to park two large vans and then ride the metro closer? We will be in DC on a Sunday, if that makes a difference.

Thank you!

With that many people, you will do better parking in D.C. (preferably close to the museum) rather than parking outside the city and taking Metro. Parking is free in D.C. on Sundays, so you can save some money on a parking garage if you can find on-street parking for those vans.

One area of D.C. where I have had good luck finding Sunday parking is located just a few blocks from the Natural History Museum. Look for parking in area around Judiciary Square, particularly in the area bordered by 4th and 9th Streets NW and C and F Streets NW. I have almost always found parking along Indiana Avenue NW in this area on Sundays.

Drive in and look for parking. You won't have to feed the meters on a Sunday and you won't have to deal with any Metro delays (lots of track work on the weekends). If you get there around 9:30, you might get lucky and find rock star parking.
