I have done my homework, and read through the many useful postings on this topic, but I am still somewhat confused.
We are two very mobile oldies, planning to visit the tourist spots of DC (some, but not all of: Arlington, National Mall, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian Institution, National Air & Space Museum, White House, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, US Botanical Garden, National Gallery of Art, International Spy Museum, US Holocaust Memorial Museum, National Museum of the American Indian) .
My original thought was to stay somewhere like Holiday Inn Washington-Capital (C Street SW) which seems easy walking distance to some places. I am not sure that there are a lot of eating options in that area - we are not looking for any great night life, but will need to eat in the evenings!
We will visiting in October, when the weather may not be best, so perhaps it would make more sense to stay somewhere along the metro?
So I am wondering about the area around McPherson Sq or Farragut West. Both look like easy access to both Blue and Orange lines. Are those good areas to stay? Will we find reasonably priced places to eat in those areas?
