Traveling From Andrews AFB

We will be visiting our son who is in the Air Force for Thanksgiving and will be staying at Andrews Air Force Base. Does anyone know how far the Branch Street station is from the base? He is stationed at Dover and is not familiar with Andrews. Would that be the best way to get to DC? Or would it be better to drive to another station? We will have a car.

Route 30 bus goes to Andrews and the Branch Ave. Metro Line. We used it last week. About one mile bus ride and 15 minute Metro ride to Mall.

We stayed near Andrews last week. Use the #30 bus to Branch Ave. It goes on the base and it's about 1 mile to the Metro. There were no parking spaces available at the station. It is about a 15 minute Metro ride to the Mall. Have fun!

It might be easier to just drive into DC. It might be worth paying $20 or so to park in a garage if you can't find a street spot just to avoid the bus/metro combination. Waiting for the bus and then riding the metro in, and vice versa, can take a very long time if you don't time it exactly right or the bus is delayed (which happens all the time).

If you are a large group of people then driving in will undoubtedly be cheaper than the metro.

Also, Branch Ave is in a fairly dangerous and high-crime part of the DC area.

Beware of the new, speeding and red-light enforcement cameras which are very controversial in the DC area, and can cost you a $100 fine ! ! There is a camera on Branch Avenue just south of Pennsylvania Ave S.E., and a couple more along Suitland Parkway in S.E. D.C. as well as on I-295 at Naval Research Lab, just to mention the ones especially pertinent to you.
