From DC to Florida...

Hello everyone,

I need advice, what is the best way to travel from Washington to Tampa,Florida?

Except plain. Is it possible to do by train or bus?

Does anyone know the price and duration of trip?

Is there anything "must see" between these two destinations?

Thank you :)

www.amtrak.com is your only train option. You can look for stations by state.

Greyhound or Peter Pan might offer service to Florida.

I found some typical trips on the Greyhound Bus web site: it takes 23 hours on most trips, and you change once in Richmond, Virginia. And it costs $135 if you get it in advance.

This is a good price. Flights are expensive going down in the winter because all the cheap tickets have already been taken. Of course, the plan takes 2 hours.

The "best" way is to fly. Try some of the flight search engines. Jetblue goes from Dulles to Tampa for about $400. You can probably get cheaper but Jet Blue lets you check in one bag free so that is $50 less for roundtrip on other airlines. Driving yourself according to the web calculators will cost you $250 and take 14 hours. We have driven and stopped off in Savannah GA for two nights at a Best Western and toured the city. But we would fly next time

Charm is right - if you drive, you'll want to split of the trip (Add money for a hotel) plus gas money, food along the way, etc...that's $400 easily round trip.

A flight, on the other hand, for $400 round trip will be only 2 hours in duration (Rather than 14...), reliable, you can sit back and watch a movie and by the time the movie's over, you're in Florida... Plus, there's always those peanuts (which I notice don't exist anymore...I never get offered free peanuts...)

But still, my point is that flying is just sooooo worth it for DC to FL.

Just realized you are a tourist from overseas where they actually have regular bus and train service at very lost cost and lots of schedules. Not the case in the United States. However, you can take a Greyhound Bus from DC to Florida roundtrip for prices ranging from $250 to $313. It will take you from 23 to 24 hours travel time. Here are all the stops and waiting time at the station transfers

(START) - WASHINGTON DC EXPRES, DC 11:21 AM

RICHMOND EXPRESS, VA 01:24 PM 01:24 PM

RICHMOND, VA 01:25 PM (TRANSFER) GLI

(TRANSFER) - RICHMOND, VA 03:35 PM

RALEIGH, NC 06:25 PM 06:40 PM

FAYETTEVILLE, NC 07:45 PM 08:55 PM

SAVANNAH, GA 12:55 AM 01:25 AM :

JACKSONVILLE, FL 03:40 AM 04:45 AM

ST AUGUSTINE, FL 05:30 AM 05:30 AM

DAYTONA BEACH, FL 06:35 AM 06:45 AM

ORLANDO, FL 07:50 AM 08:40 AM :

(END) - TAMPA, FL 10:20 AM (END)

You can enter the exact date you want to travel and see how many trips there are that day at https:/…step1.aspx

and what the cost would be

Good luck
