City tours, Redskins and ground transportation

Hello,

Can you please tell me what is the best company to do a city tour in Washington, DC (Hop-On/Hop-Off Bus Tours)?

Is it realistic to think we could get 3 tickets for the Washington Redskins VS Indianaoplis Colts Sunday, October 17?

What is the cheapest way to transport 3 people between Washington Dulles Airport and downtown Washington?

Thank you

The cheapest way to get from Dulles Airport to downtown DC is the 5A bus. All you options can be found at the link near the top right of this page.

Very few people have taken more than one hop-on, hop-off companies buses. So comparisons are rare. I would certainly look for one with live narration, rather than pre-recorded. Using any of them as a means of getting from one place to another is expensive and can be frustration. If you just plan to ride around the loop, or loops, they can help orient you to the city.

Yes, it is realistic you'll be able to get tickets to the game. There should be hundreds to choose from on stubhub.com. The team is also likely to announce a "limited number" of tickets available this week due to visiting team returns, likely on Tuesday via Ticketmaster.com. You can also try a local ticket broker if you want good seats. One I can personally recommend as reliable is www.ascticket.com.

Be sure to look at the recent topic about how getting to a game at FedEx is less than a great experience. And driving and parking is even less fun, unless you get one of the big-bucks parking passes.

Thank you all

I have more details now.

Arrival in Washington Dulles (IAD)

Departure from Washington Dulles (IAD)

During our stay, we will see a football game at FedEx Field. We have a parking ticket included.

We want to see/visit the white house, pentagone, National Mall, etc.

Hotel price are very expansive during our stay. We are a group of 3 looking for 1 room. In witch area should we stay? Should we rent a car or we should use public transportation?

Thank you for your help

For being a tourist in DC, you do not want a car. Expensive to park. But you should start reading this forum, where most of your questions will be answered. And forget the tour of the Pentagon unless you are a big fan of huge office buildings. If you are coming fairly soon, then you are already too late to arrange a tour of the Pentagon and the White House.

Although you indicate you found your tickets already, for others who may have been following the thread, the team did send their weekly "limited availability" single game ticket email today. They can be purchased for Sunday's game directly from the ticket office at 301-276-6033. The notion that Redskins tickets can never be bought on a single game basis has become patently false.

It's hard to say what the "best" HOHO tour is because, as Darrell stated, few people (myself included) have done more than one HOHO tour. However, I can say that a Segway tour is a lot more fun than an HOHO tour. The groups are small; the guides are knowledgeable and enthusiastic (and willing to take your photo in front of the iconic sites); and the Segways are just a lot of fun to ride!

As Darrell has noted, it's too late for you to get tours of the White House or the Pentagon, but you can walk by the White House and you can go to the Pentagon's 9/11 Memorial easily by Metro. See: http://www.whs.mil/memorial/
