We are a group of mid-40's attractive women who get away yearly together. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

See if the Birchmere in Alexandria has a show that interests you.

9:30 club usually has good shows, if you know the music.

18th street in Adams Morgan has something for everyone. You might consider just walking around and seeing what appeals to you. Nice places to eat like Cashions, La Fourchette, Perry's, a few dance clubs and live music (Heaven and Hell, Tom Tom and my favorite Madam's Organ) and some good old fashion bars like Toledo Lounge, Millie and Al's and everyone's favorite dive bar Dan's Cafe.

Hi happyfuntime,

I agree with the Adams Morgan suggestion because the neighborhood is lively and fun, but you should know that many of the places that line 18th street are very young and "frat boyish" (no offense, fakename!).

That may indeed be what you and your gal pals are looking for (if so, more power to you!) but for a more sophisticated experience, keep your eyes peeled for a few of my favorites on that strip:

*Mezze (medeterranian appetizers, street-side dining, good people watching)

*The Reef (rooftop bar w/great views, sometimes crowded)

*Felix (great martini menu, frequently live jazz)

Just make sure you and the ladies leave before 2 or 3am when the clubs empty and all the drunkards rush for cabs or a jumbo slice... it's mayhem!

None taken, and you are correct, it can get a bit young in places, but I find at this point in my life it is kinda fun to sit back, remember the angst of youth and laugh a little.

I find it very entertaining. My wife finds in annoying.

Have a nice dinner and go to Madam's Organ. Good cross of young and aging and good local music. Wenesday nights they have a good bluegrass band.

If you want a good Irish Bar, check out The Dubliner...diagonal from Union Station on Mass Ave. Kelly's Irish Times is also next door, but I find it gets overrun with students from CUA and the like (I know, because I was a CUA student, once upon a time, a very long time ago!) But I still find the Dubliner enjoyable (and I am 35) and not the youngest in there by a long shot.

My girlfriends and I usually do a trip to DC once a year, although this year we are going to Baltimore instead. I will miss DC, although the husband and I are looking to do a quick getaway for our anniversary there.

Adams Morgan is fun as well...and there is always Georgetown -

Good luck!
