Movie Theaters? Comedy?

Hoping to catch a movie and/or comedy while in town. We're staying near the convention center. Any advice on either nearby or easy-to-access-by-metro theaters? How about comedy clubs?

E St cinemas are my favorite.

I've only been to DC Improv for comedy, I think it's the most wellknown.

The main comedy club is the DC Improv: https://www.dcimprov.com/

There are a couple of theater based improv shows happening, depending on your dates.

The Second City's Twist Your Dickens runs until Dec. 31.

Washington Improv Theater also has a lot happening:

Woolly Mammoth, a short walk from the Convention Center, has a show featuring Second City, Nothing to Lose (But Our Chains)> I haven't seen it yet, but saw the main performer last year. He's terrific. It runs until Dec. 31:

I also like Atlantic Plumbing Cinema which would be pretty convenient.

Movie theaters are all easy on Google. Comedy depends on what you are actually looking for - Stand up? Improv? Comedic theater?

If you want a traditional theater, gallery place is an option though it is a hassle and sometime rowdy with well meaning but immature teens. They also do not let you into the general theater area including concessions until right before (10 minutes) the show which takes away from the experience of buying food, relaxing with the music and early previews and catching all of the previews IMHO. Georgetown is less rowdy and does not have thr restrictions but has maintenance and mouse issues that I have experienced first hand. It also sells out popular shows quickly

Thank you for the great ideas and information. Especially appreciate the details like Travelergirl998 provided. Of course "movie theaters are all easy on Google," but Google doesn't tell you about rowdy teens, 10 minute advance seating and mouse issues. Also happy to see that we have a couple of good comedy options.

Travelergil998 is posting wrong information. "Mouse issues" isn't actually a thing. Sure, one person might have once seen one mouse in any one venue, anywhere in the world, but it is ridiculous to think any movie theater, or any venue at all, in any city, town or village is going to have mice running all around.

Also, no theater anywhere would restrict entry until 10 minutes before the show. That would be absurd, since most of movie theater revenue is from concessions.

A quick Google/Yelp search will give you the actual facts. (Rowdy teens are a reality - not just in the movie theater, but all over Chinatown. But mostly they are just like obnoxious rowdy teens in every town and city.)

I personally saw mice running around in the open ticket sales area of Georgetown at a crowded movie so I don’t think it is incorrect. I have also been personally kept from entering the theater to go to the concessions at gallery place multiple times even after saying I wanted to buy concessions which require cooking before the show. Those are my experience. Maybe you have not had those experiences but I have so you really cannot judge it to be false.
