Affordable Parking Near the Embassy Suites Convention?

Staying in DC with our kids for three nights between Christmas and New Years at the Embassy Suites Convention Center (900 10th St NW - I think.) and need some parking options. Parking at the hotel is $45 plus tax per night. We are not afraid of walking a few blocks. Thanks so much for your suggestions! Even names of municipal parking options or lots would be great.

Most DC parking garages (there are very few lots in downtown) do not allow overnight parking. Nor do they have any in and out privileges. And I don't know of any municipal parking facilities in DC anywhere a tourist would be. The main option is at Union Station for $22 each day. There are a few others places, one near the Mayflower Hotel that charge about the same and are open 24 hours.

If you park anywhere else other than your hotel, you don't get in and out privilege. That is fine if you don't plan on using your car while you are here.

From Union Station, you can take the red line metro back to Gallery Place then walk back to your hotel. There is also the Circulator bus that stops near your hotel and cost only $1, but it is less frequent and just like any surface transportation, subject to traffic jams and delays.

If there are any cheaper 24-hour garages near your hotel, you can find them using bestparking.com.

Also, keep in mind that street parking is free and unrestricted on Sundays, so that's one day you don't need to pay for parking.

You could park at Reagan National Airport; their long term parking is about $12/per day, and there are some off-airport lots near the airport that are $7 per day and will take you right to the Airport for free.

The Metro stops at the Airport, so you just take the Yellow Line to Mt. Vernon Sq-Convention Center station (7th and L) or the Blue Line to Metro Center (12th and G) and you're practically at your hotel.

After driving all the way from Tennessee, parking at DCA is not so bad, considering that it's right off a highway, and you wouldn't have to drive into the District at all.

Carrying luggage from National Airport to the Embassy Suites on Metro with children would not be a lot of fun. So if you want to park at the airport, I would suggest driving to the hotel first, unloading everyone and everything and then taking the car to park it.

Is it really worthwhile to park at the Reagan Airport? Let's take a look at the Metro fare from Reagan Airport to Gallery Place, where ES Convention Center is. It is $3.00 per ride per person during off-peak hours, or $3.50 during peak hours. On top of that, you will probably need to put aside at least an hour to go there and back.

Thanks for the suggestions! We will most likely drop our luggage and 1/2 the family at the hotel and then park at Union Station. $22 / day is way better than, the $45 / day plus tax at the hotel. We do not plan on using the car when we are in DC.

Can you walk from Union Station to the Embassy Suites? How far away is it?

Thanks!

They are a little over a mile apart so walking is possible but it is not a particularly short walk.

By the way you can easily find answers to questions like that in two seconds just by going to Google maps, mapquest, or any other site like that.

You can catch the Circulator bus going to Georgetown from Union Station and it will go right near the Embassy Suites Convention Center. It only costs $1 each.
