Suggestions for upstate NY trip

Hi all

I'm travelling to NYC in early October to meet friends for the weekend. I've decided to fly out a bit early and arrive on the Monday. I've booked a flight to Rochester, landing in the evening, and booked a hire car and an airport hotel for the first night.

I've then got all day Tue/Wed/Thu, aiming to arrive in NYC for Fri late afternoon/early evening (one-way rental, returning the car near my hotel).

I'm looking for suggestions of the best way to split the trip - hopefully should be a good time of year to enjoy the Fall and the Finger Lakes region. I could just split things evenly (so staying around Syracruse/Albany/Poughkeepsie for the different nights) but would appreciate suggestions for better ways of doing things or particular things to see/do!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

You will want to visit Letchworth State Park, Watkins Glen State Park and the Corning Glass Museum on the way to Ithaca. There are also many wineries on Keuka, Seneca and Cayuga Lake.

In the Ithaca area, Taughannock Falls, Buttermilk Falls and Robert Treman are gorgeous state parks to visit.

Cornell University campus, gardens and Sapsucker Woods bird sanctuary are good options there as well.
