We'll be in Baxter from August 2nd-August 5th. (2 adults, kids 5, 9, and 10)
Two nights at South Branch Pond and 1 night at Nesowadnehunk Field. Had tried for Kidney Pond but they were booked.. :(
So here's what I've got...
Arrive at South Branch by or before 3pm.
Check with ranger station for maps, suggested hikes, and kids packs if they have them at this spot (been hearing that they have bags that have info and reading for kids).
Paddle South Branch Pond and take in the sights.
Day 2- Hike on South Branch Mountain
Lunch at South Branch Falls (yes I know there is no food service in the park :) )
Day 3- Move camp to Nesowadnehunk Field.
Check with ranger station for hikes
Possibly Little and Big Niagra Hike
Hike Hunt Trail to Katahdin Stream Falls
Day 4- Rise early to head to Acadia
I'm not confident in my choices for Day 3. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
My older kids can hike like it's there job. The 5 year old can do about 6 hours worth of hiking before he's done. Just hiked Mist Trail in Yosemite which was straight up and down so maybe we could get more out of him if the trail wasn't as advanced? Either way, one big hike every few days is our goal.
Also curious if there are ranger programs geared toward kids since this is a State Park and not a National Park.
