4 days in Idaho in between Glacier and Yellowstone

In August we are heading to Glacier and then to Yellowstone, with 4 nights in between to spend in idaho. We definitely want to go from West Glacier to Coeur d'alene for night #1 but from there we aren't sure what to do/how to structure our time. Typically we like to hike but we are okay w/other stuff as well as GNP and Yellowstone will be a lot of hiking. Hells Canyon and the Sawtooth Mountains are definitely of interest to us. We aren't very into the 'city' stuff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I’d spend the 1st night in CdA, spend the next AM there. Head south on US 95 thru Moscow to overnight in Lewiston for 2 nights. This afternoon head eastbto Spalding to the Nez Perce National Monument. Do a jet boat trip up the Snake for your full day there. Then Head east on US 12 over Lolo Pass. There are many shortish hikes you can do along the Wild and Scenic Selway and Lochsa Rivers up to the top of the pass. Overnight in Missoula.

IF you want a longer scenic drive with less hiking, head south on US93 to the cut off to MT 43 just before Lost Trail Pass and the Idaho line. Head east toward Wisdom, stop at the Nez Perce Bighole Battlefield Memorial then overnight in Dillon MT.

If you want the Sawtooths I’d head straight there instead of cutting over to CdA. From CdA and Missoula the southbound roads are all 2 lane so take a while.
