Agriculture inspection on outbound flight to US mainland

Hi,

We are going to the HI islands in a few weeks and I am unclear what our return flight process will be. We will fly Hawaiian Air from OGG to HNL and then Delta from HNL back to the mainland. The HA and Delta flights are separately booked (due to using Delta award travel for the second leg). We are likely to have only carry on with us. We have 70 minutes from the scheduled HA touchdown in HNL to the Delta departure from HNL to the mainland. Is the following the correct sequence of events and is 70 minutes enough?

1) At OGG, go through TSA

2) Land at HNL

3) Do we go through the carry-on agricultural scan at HNL? Keep in mind the HA and DL flights are separate. I am assuming we won't have to go through TSA again?

4) Depart HNL for mainland

Thanks for the insight.

If you have checked bags you should be able to check them through in Maui, and if so you'd go through checked bag inspection there (which is fast -- like 2 min).

The carryon check is at the gate and also very quick (and not that thorough) so it really shouldn't slow you down.

Here is a link that contains a lot of useful info(Scroll down once on the link..)

flyertalk.com/forum/hawaii/761311-guide-ques…

*If you end up having checked baggage, they will go through Ag inspect at OGG. They can be checked through to your final destination. It matters not if the tickets were together or separate...revenue or points.Just be sure to show both itineraries to the ticket agent at OGG to have the bags "Interlined"

*You will pass through a "Ag inspect" station once landed in HNLfor carry-ons

* It is entirely possible to stay inside the "Secure" portion of the airport at HNL,....Follow the signage... while in transit from the Inter-Island terminal to the Main terminal.

* 70 mins is doable...I prefer 90 mins to 2 hrs. They tend to start boarding those big planes back to the Mainland 30 -40 mins prior to departure. So go directly to the gate. You don't want your seats given up to a standby.

* Make sure you do an on-line check-in the night before for both flights and Print the boarding passes. If no printer avail..they will do both for you at OGG upon check-in if you present both itineraries.

* The gates normally used for Delta are close to the Inter-Island terminal......taking less time to transfer.

Thanks! This is super helpful! Our flight times keep migrating around... the latest change on the Delta A330 out of HNL to ATL gives us only 54 minutes. I may have to back us up to an earlier flight out of OGG. Since we are flying F to the mainland, hopefully Delta's HNL lounge is open -- some sites list it as closed.
