We always go in the peak season and we travel cheap but splurge on activities ...
AL lthis for a couple
Big Island 2004 9 days- Dec 17-24
Airfare - 800 pp
Accomodation - Hilo $70 pp in Paradise vacation rentals - cozy cottage and they have accomodations for five as well. We were only 2 of us but the place could fit 3-4 people. It was a 1 bedroom place with a huge living room and fully equipped kitchen
Kona Seaside Hotel - usual low range hotel for 65 a night. preferred Paradise vacation rentals.
Snorkeling, diving tours - 300 pp (2 trips. 1 was an expensive introductory dive with pool lessons et al)
car rental - can't remember nothing too expensive. I think 300$ or something like that.
Food - we ate in most of our stay in Hilo and the must have spent around 20-30 for both of us on the rest of meals.
We are teatotallers.
The rest of time we visited the national park, drove around the island went on a lot of hikes most of all this was free.
So this trip amounted to around 1500 pp
Maui 2005 12 days Dec 22-Jan 2nd
Air fare - 1000$ pp
Stay - 65$ per night in a family owned cottage in Haiku.
2 days in Hana - 80 bucks a night for 1 night
Food - we ate out for lunch and dinner not spending more than 30 bucks for the 2 of us per meal
We spent around 300 pp for 3 dive trips
Car rental - 250 dollars
We hiked a lot spent time on the beach saw almost every attraction in the island.
This trip came to maybe 1800 pp I think.
