Rehoboth or Lewes in October?

We are considering a one night stop at a Delaware beach in the third week of October as part of a drive down the peninsula. Are most things open in these places at that time of year? Which place would be better? We're a couple in our 50's and we'd like a place with some cute shops to browse, a simple meal, and a place to stay with a view of the water. Thanks for any suggestions!

I would definitely visit both! October is still a very busy time of year at the Delaware beaches and you;ll find that mostly all restaurants, stores and hotels are open. The best part about visiting that time of year is that restaurants and shops offer more discounts, happy hours, specials...etc.

There are more shops and hotels in Rehoboth than in Lewes as the commercial area in Lewes in smaller in size. You can definitely hit up both.....Lewes is about 10 minutes north of Rehoboth.

Also, there are lots of great festivals in and around Rehoboth in October....I'd check online before you book....you don't want to miss something great! (Sidewalk sales, Punkin Chunkin, Jazz Fest, Seawitch Festival...etc)

Have fun!

Unfortunately our time is quite limited as this is part of a larger trip. Sounds like Rehoboth is more what we're looking for. Thanks.

I would choose Lewes. They have beautiful shops on 2nd street and usually have some type of activity on the weekends in the fall. It is a beautiful town. Cape Henlopen State Park is also close and just beautiful for a walk.

These are not large towns. It will be very easy to spend a few hours in Lewes then head down the road and spend the rest of the day and evening in Rehoboth. Rehoboth has a wider selection of restaurants and also has a boardwalk which makes a nice evening stroll.
