Beaches with the most nightlife and activities?

We are a group of guys in their early 20s visiting Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego all the way from Malta for the first time. We are interested in the best beaches California has to offer as regards nightlife and activities with people in our age group.

Since there are so many, which would be the best to visit in those three places?

Thanks in advance

I'd like to recommend a couple beaches in Los Angeles.

Hermosa Beach is worth considering (most everything is right there around the pier) and you can also go bike riding or walk along the "strand" during the day (bars, shops & restaurants too):

I think you will want to also check out Venice, Beach (from there you can walk to Santa Monica Pier, rent bicycles or rollerblades to use along the cement path that follows the beach line, and lots of shops and booths and restaurants and bars all along the waterfront.):

pacific beach in the San Diego area and Santa Monica in the La area among others would be the places to stay in and go.

The weather and currents do not make San Francisco a beach city. We have beaches but not the type where you have nightlife
