Flying into San Jose headed to Yosemite south entrance what route would you take? We are renting a car from air port...help!
When are you going?
I'm going this Friday 6/28
I think the standard Google Maps route is fine: http://goo.gl/maps/vaV8U Hopefully marmot will pop in with her preferred route, but 101 -> 152 -> 99 -> 145 -> 41 seems fine. Getting away from the South Bay as soon as possible is ideal. (I got stuck leaving that area late one holiday weekend - Friday, and it was not fun!)
You might ask on the San Jose forum about traffic issues.
What time is your flight getting in?
Thanks pacific nw family
Thats the route we take from SJ.
My favorite route into the Valley is 120, so north on 680, east on 580, to 120, then into the park via Big Oak Flat road...
RandyHees ~ the Original Poster is going to the South Entrance rather than the Big Oak Flat Entrance. Hopefully staying south of the Bay Area will limit their time in Friday traffic!
Which route is the most scenic? We arrive early in to SJ so traffic I don't think will be a big concern! Listening to previous post 120 sounds scary! Any suggestions? My family wants to take the scenic route to Yosemite.
Randy Hees, how far is Big Oak Flats entrance to the south entrance?
Big Oak Flat entrance is at least an hour from the south entrance, probably more like 90 minutes. Hwy 120 does have some steep sections that can be unnerving. It is scenic though. The other choice is hwy 140, which comes into Yosemite along the Merced river. If you take 120 or 140, you will drive through the park to get to the south entrance.
