Way back from Vegas - suggestions for night stay

I would be travelling from Torrance to Vegas (on 1st day) and back (4th day) to Torrance. I can spend 1st and 2nd day in Vegas and 3rd and 4th day on the way coming back. With help of other TA experts, I was able to find few worthy places to visit and that can go as below.

Las Vegas (77 miles) --> Cima Rd, Cima (51 miles) --> Kelso Dunes, (87 miles) --> Twentynine Palms (14 miles) --> Joshua Tree (60 miles) --> Pioneertown Rd, Big Bear --> (83 miles) --> Palm Springs (122 miles) --> Torrance

Here is maps URL --> http://goo.gl/maps/tBbFL

Where should I stay overnight on this route. Total is about 500 miles which can not fit in a day, I believe. If somebody think something can be excluded, please do suggest.

Yes Scottca075. I have planned to visit these places in multiple day trips from Torrance instead of staying there. For Vegas, I will directly go and stay there 2-3 days and will come from there direct to Torrance.

Thanks much

Abhi -

Again, your post is very confusing.

Do you wish to do all those places in ONE trip? You mention that you plan to visit Vegas and then go direct to Torrance. How do the other places fit in??

I will go to Vegas on a extended weekend and will come back directly to Torrance. I will cover Valley Fire in that.

Some other day, I will start from Torrance and visit Palm Spring and come back in night.

And I can make a day trip from Torrance to Big Bear some other time. I hope, this make sense.

Yeah.... It's understandable but it doesn't make sense.

Valley of Fire is beautiful but very hot. The area is named after the fire red sandstone but it may as well be named after fire itself. Expect temps there to be well in the 100's this weekend. (You did want cooler weather, right?)

Palm Springs and Big Bear are not generally regarded as day trips. Spending a night in each locale would make a lot of sense.

I wanted cooler weather, as I asked in another thread, but I also asked about staying in desert area in this thread. I am not specific to weather, just looking for more options.

Yes valley of Fire will be hot, but will visit that. I will check more on Palm Springs and Big Bear. If staying overnight is worth, I will stay.

I think that you will find that both Big Bear and Palm Springs are great weekend destinations.

Renting a cabin, having a BBQ or campfire in the evening, maybe going for a hike are all things that can be done in Big Bear.

The deserts in and around the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs) are beautiful and fascinating to explore. Good shopping, a few Indian casinos if you like that kind of stuff, the Palm Springs Tramway is always a treat, good restaurants and really hot summer temperatures also....

Try to make them weekend trips instead of day trips!

Keep in Mind around the 4th of july if that still when you are planning this trip you would not want to be traveling to Las Vegas on the 4th traffic would be extremely heavy for that day, as well as the day after likely, and the Sunday will also has very bad traffic going back to the LA area as alot of people visit Las Vegas when there are Holiday weekends from that area.

Also keep in mind that Valley of Fire is likely going to be around 110 degrees F. or more for your visit The only slightly cooler time to visit is going to be in the early morning hours. The lows usually only in the high 80's low 90's range. If you want to visit, be sure to bring some frozen water bottles with you.

Palm Springs is likely also to also be around those same temperatures. All of these places in the next few weeks are heading into thier hotter summer temps for the year.

Things are not likely to cool off much till very late Sept at the earliest. I would suggest perhaps visiting North of your location right now which is more likely to have nicer summer temps.
