That would be Sonoran Mexican. Too many restaurants to name - where are you staying so we can narrow some down for you?

Anything Glendale or Scottsdale is famous for i would not eat/ Like asking what is Paris famous for French food. That said Arizonans like to make Tamales Green Corn or Shredded beef, Tucson has the best

Ignore Discman, he's always like that - not sure why. Anyway, don't worry, there are lots of great restaurants here. Aztchr is correct; Sonoran Mexican food is what we are most known for. Try the Barrio Cafe at 16th Street and Thomas (that's one of our favorites), Los Olivos in Scottsdale, or Los Dos Molinos in South Phoenix.

Somewhat near the Glendale stadium, there is also a Mexican food place called Abuelos - it's more of a chain place, and we haven't eaten there in awhile, but it's decent enough. Be aware, though, that restaurants near the game in Glendale will probably be packed over the weekend; you might actually do just as well to drive a little further away. (Not sure where you are staying, though.)

Other suggestions, not Mexican food, though:

If you want a fine dining experience that will also give you a feel for "Old Arizona", try Lon's at the Hermosa Inn. The place was built years ago by cowboy artist Lon Megargee. (He's the one who painted the famous Stetson hat painting, of the cowboy giving his horse a drink out of his hat.) It's a fantastic restaurant and a beautiful location near Camelback Mountain and Paradise Valley. Be aware that it's expensive, but worth it.

If you want a great view of the entire city, head to the Compass Room at the Hyatt downtown. The food is pretty good, but you can also just head to the lounge up there and have drinks and apps. The restaurant itself is on the 23rd floor and revolves 360 degrees every hour, so you get fantastic city views. Go for sunset, and explore downtown a bit.

If you are anywhere near Central Avenue at lunchtime, head to Pane Bianco on Central Ave, between Camelback and Indian School. It's a tiny place, but they have amazing sandwiches - my favorite is the mozzarella and tomato.

If you have other questions, or need more suggestions for places closer to you, let us know!

Thanks, Hummingbird, for your post (I was dashing out the door to work...) All of your suggestions are super. I'd add Los Sombreros in Scottsdale for Mexican. I also like the atmosphere as well as the food at Roaring Fork. Love Lon's, if course. Better have reservation with Barrett Jackson in town this weekend.

Aztchr makes a good point!

Barrett-Jackson has a huge impact on the local restaurants in Scottsdale. If it's upscale, it will be in high demand this week. Expect crowds, traffic and plenty of very cool vehicles driving around. Not that Scottsdale lacks in that regard, but this week will be special. Then of course the football game this weekend will be an added bonus. And as soon as we've all recovered from that, get ready for the FBR Open. PHX/Scottsdale is the place to be for the next several weeks.

Any questions about why hotel room rates are high right now?

LOL, RedRox! :) Yep, hotel rooms are definitely at a premium right now. And don't forget the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show the third week of February. That show brings in thousands of people, along with the revenue for Scottsdale, of course! ;)

...and considering it is sunny with a high in the 70's every day, who wouldn't pay extra for that when you're sitting somewhere in the midwest where you'll be lucky to hit the teens today. Those Eagles fans may never leave after the game :-)

According to their ads, Kai Restaurant at Wild Horse Pass (south edge of Phoenix on I-10) has a local foods menu.

You can get prickly pear iced tea at the Desert Botanical Garden.
