Alaska TourSaver Coupon Book - Worthwhile?

We will be taking a 7 day inside passage cruise from Seattle in late June, arriving in Juneau at 2:30 PM. Is the whale watching tour in Juneau with Kaytos offered in the coupon book a good choice? Originally booked with Harv&Marv but tour is longer and only allots 15 minutes at Mendenhall Glacier, and is also rather expensive.

Check out the "top questions about Alaska" on the right side of the main AK Forum page. You'll find a resource link to info on the Toursaver (and Northern Lights) discount coupon book.

Bottom line is their value is only as good as the things *you* plan to do and whether or not they are in the book. Since we don't know what you're planning to do or how you'd used the coupons, no way for us to know.

You can look up Kaytos in the book online to figure out if the savings exceeds the cost . . . and whether or not there are restrictions that would limit or prevent your ability to use the discount.

Thanks for the reply. Contacted kaytos and they've been responsive to questions and accomodating. Looks like the book will cover several of the activities we'd like to do.

You can stay longer at Mendhenhall Glacier if you go with Harv and Marv. You just need to take your own transportation back to town. There is a shuttle service to/from Juneau and Mendenhall. Many prefer to do it this way, so they can take advantage of all Mendenhall has to offer. Even if you go with Kaytos, you can still stay longer at Mendenhall and return to Juneau by shuttle.

I have purchased the Alaska Toursaver Coupon Books in the past. My most recent purchse for the 2013 season has not turned out well. Tour Operators do not always accept the Alaska Toursaver Coupons. My advice would be to contact the specific Tour Operator to see if they will indeed honor the coupon before you order the book.

The tour operators can only except (honor) a certain number each day, otherwise they will be losing a lot of money........so yes, check with each vendor to see if you can use your coupon on the day you want and then make reservations.....

Those coupon books have become very popular.....

THE COUPON BOOK IS AVAILABLE NOVEMBER 1st - for the next year- buy it early and make reservations early- especially to any Princess Lodge anywhere in the state or Pike's Hotel / river lodge in Fairbanks- they fill up fast with cruise people. We bought this coupon book last March- we saved over $1000 and then sold it on Ebay for $26.00

We went to Glacier Bay National Park- BOGO stay at the lodge overnight $244 there-- and then the Glacier Bay Boat Tour $202 there- AND the Ferry had broken down so we used a BOGO round trip flight from Juneau to Gustavus $189- almost $650 in one place-- We thought it was a great buy and have recommended to three friends who are planning an Alaskan vacation next year

This is the most confusing topic I have read. I cannot make out heads or tails what they are talking about...... very poorly presented.

Mdclli,

You can look at "coupons/discounts" here:

http://www.toursaver.com/alaska-deals/

Traveling via RV,

- just checking to make sure you know there's no road to Juneau

- Denali won't be fully open when you are here (still worthwhile, but truncated services)

Good luck
