Hi, has anyone gone scuba diving in Guardalavaca area?
My 12 year old son, my wife and I will be at Brisa Gardalavaca Feb 26 to Mar 12. We plan on diving and I will write a report on my return.
i dived most days from the dive centre on the beach at playa pesquero - completely free as i was at playa costa verde :-)
not the greatest corals in the world - but lots of nice purple fans and the fish are good - although mainly of the smaller varieties.
air temp 26-31 degrees C. water temp 25-27 degrees C. we wore 3mm 3/4 wetsuits and were fine. usually a strong breeze, especially in the afternoons so don't leave lunch too late!
dive centre very relaxed and friendly
You don't say where you're staying exactly. We were at the Paradisus Rio de Oro and my husband went diving there. There's a dive school on the beach in front of the neighbouring hotel (Luna Y Mares). A dive costs 30 pesos, with small reductions if you book several dives. This includes weight belts and cylinders, but they hire out the rest of the kit if required. Some of what they had looked a bit old, we'd say bring as much of your own kit as you can. A shortie wetsuit is fine for this time of year.
This dive school goes out every day except Sunday (or when it's very windy) - a deepish dive (up to 30 metres) at 9 am, and a shallower one at 11 am when they take out more beginners. The boat looks a bit primitive but is surprisingly stable. They changed into their kit and the dive centre and then just waded out to the boat. You can leave your kit at the center in between dives if you're doing several dives.
The diving is on mostly on coral reefs rather than wrecks. Good visibility, but the fish life not as abundant as the Red Sea, he says. Mind you, I only went snorkelling and I thought it was wonderful.
DML whereabouts was the scuba diving off playa pesquero?? i have heard that there was a dive centre up by the maritam somewhere i think??
that's the one. its actually owned and run by gaviota hotels and is used by guests from Playa Costa Verde and Maritim Costa Verde. If you're staying at PCV you're allowed one free dive per week (in reality you can get many more, as I did). Two dives per day for certified divers - 9am and 2pm. The morning dive is around 30m, the afternoon about 20m. All are boat dives and they can take about 15 divers per trip. One guy I met from Maritim was paying 70 pesos for 2 dives all in.
Oh ok thankyou very much, so can people from playa pesquero not use the dive centre at all?
there is a divingschool at Hotel Atlantico too,
if you stay in Las Brisas you will be taken to Atlantico by boat.
this is only 2 minutes away.
see www.cubalinda.com for more info on diving.
yes, anyone can use the dive centre - but its only free i think to PCV guests. its just i guess that i didn't meet anyone there from PP when i was there. as fas a i know anyone can rock up and dive as long as you have money!
Travellinfool - it's Sunshine again. I could only post a reply to my own question - don't ask - I've had all sorts of issues with the website so.....anyway, I posted it saying we departed Wpg Jan.28, were on the Ocean Paradise Catamaran on Wed Feb 2 with Rick and his group.....Sorry for the delay - I'm a big loser at this or else I'm having serious delay issues between posting and seeing....in any case, thanks for the help - would be great if you could find out who this guy is and/or who he works for. I think he was staying at Pesquero but could've been Grand Turquesa.
