Trains

Hi, Just wondering are the unplanned train strikes still occuring ? We are visiting 21 Dec for a week and trying to plan our days using public transport, and hopefully hire some bikes.

Shame there are no boat trips available ,but it is out of season .

Thanks for any help, Devongirlie.

There are also buses if a train strike happens, Dec 25 it's a national holiday so probably they will do a train strike.

If you like, you can arrange for a (private) boat trip:

See Joseph in Anzu bar on the waterfront. The bar is next to the roman bridge and he also can be found in the bike shop next to it as he owns it also.

If he is not in the bar the bar lady will give you a brochure with prices on it.

Train strikes are continuing. CP has announced, at two days notice, that there will be virtually no trains this Saturday (8th December) which is a holiday.

Therefore it must be assumed that there will be no trains operating on December 25th and January 1st.

These all-out strikes are in addition to the 'no-notice' walkouts which are affecting trains here in the Algarve.

It is the intention of the government to completely close down the regional railways, which will be easily achieved as the last few remaining passengers will soon disappear.

If you are hiring bikes, you will be interested in this website for the cycle path that runs more or less all the way along the coast.

www.ecoviasalgarve.org

You can take bikes on the trains free but loading and unloading is difficult as the platforms here are low down and there are steps up into the train.

Thamks guys.

So , hopefully, trains will run on Dec 24/26, would these days be classed as Sunday service ?

Maybe buses would be more dependable, we fancy exploring Faro old town, Vila Real de SA etc but will be looking to travel on Sunday 23,and the above dates , so what ever transport we choose will we be on Sunday timetable? I will try to download timetables before we go.

Cold, wet and windy in Devon [UK] today, we are looking forward to warmer weather, [but know it could be a bit wet too ] .

I do appreciate all your help. Devongirlie.
