Travel to smaller towns (Myjava and Bytca) from Bratislava

We are flying into Vienna but plan on traveling to Myjava and Bytca from Bratislava. Is it possible to see both towns by train or better to rent a car? May want to spend the night in one of the smaller towns. Any advice?

It's feasible by public transport, quicker by car I imagine.

Myjava and Bytca are realy small towns with not so many points of interests / for you maybe family roots?/ Public transport is possible by main train line Bratislava to Zilina with side bus trips Piestany /spa town/ to Myjava and Zilina to Bytca /train or bus side trip/ You can sleep in Piestany . It is nice spa town with spa promenade, or in Zilina with side trips to pictoresque Strecno castle, Terchova - Vratna dolina for hiking and cabin lifts to Mala Fatra, Rajecke Teplice spa with nice aquapark
