Train to Vienna

Hi, are staying 5 days in Bratislava, and are planning a day trip to Vienna during our stay. I guess we can buy our tickets at the train station in Bratislava. What tickets do you recommend? Are there a return ticket available, or maybe a ticket which includes public transport in Vienna?

Martin

Hello, you are probably looking for ticket

EURegio Wien Ticket + Z 100

which costs 17.30 Euro and it is a return ticket to Vienna which includes the day ticket for public transport within the city limits of Vienna (so called Zone 100).

There are two train services to Vienna, one leaving from Bratislava hlavna stanica (central train station), the other one leaving from Bratislava Petrzalka, both services stop at Wien Hauptbahnhof station in Vienna. Each of these routes has approximately one train per hour; two hours during off-peaks and weekends.

The EUregio ticket is valid for both routes, so going from Vienna you can take the train which comes first.

Just make sure the lady behind the counter understands that you need the ticket with Wien (Vienna) public transport day pass included (Z100), because there is also cheaper 15 Euro ticket without public transport option. You need the one that costs 17.30 Euro.

The 2.30 Euro surcharge for a day pass is really a good deal, because a standalone day pass in Vienna costs 6.70 Euro.

We are thinking of using the Twin City Liner to Bratislava. What is the cost of a single fare by train back to Vienna?

As far as I know, there is only return fare for this shuttle train.

But you can travel back by bus, there is a service operated by company Blaguss, which has a stop close to the city centre, under the bridge Most SNP (New Bridge, "UFO" bridge). One way fare is 7.20 Euro/person.

Timetable and further information:

Do you need to validate your ticket in a machine before boarding or can you just walk on?

Just walk on, it's fine. Your ticket will be checked and stamped by the Slovak conductor, and then the Austrian one...

Hi, Is there a website where you can buy the EURegio Wien ticket on line or can you only buy at the station? Rail Europe only offers £16 one way ticket

I'm afraid you can buy this ticket only at the station.
