Prepaid SIM for web access

What is the most cost effective prepaid SIM solution for a visitor in Budapest for 3G data connection ? (I don't need a local phone number, only internet access)

Hello kalda01

Take a look at this thread it may help you out

Hopefully TA member Jeremy F will see this and latch on he seems to have a very large knowledge of the telecom field across Europe. If not maybe send him a PM and see what he has to offer as far as suggestions

Enjoy your trip

I can see there is a prepaid SIM card for 4050 HF (Domino SIM card).

Not clear how much data is bundled with it or how much a data plan costs for example a 1GB data plan without contract.

That looks promising. Is this type of SIM card available at any T-Mobile location in Budapest ?

Yes, any T-mobile shop; comparable plans also may be available at Telenor and Vodaphone; the pricing and plans change pretty frequently and are competitive; there also has been, but the last time I bought one was several months ago, a rather less costly, lower volume, shorter duration sim card (something like 1G for 1 week for 2000 HUF) that seemed ideal for a tourist but I had a harder time getting this pricing just walking up to a counter in a store (I was told about it when calling in to customer service by phone).

This plan lasts 30 days. It can be replenished, as is true of all cell phone and data plans, at any ATM.

When I was in Budapest last year Telenor had a "free data" for a month promo. You only had to dial #321. A small shop at Nyagati station sold me a card for 10 euros activated it and got me me free data.

Hi kalda01,

Solid advice above....one thing to note - if you are close to Westend Mall (Pest side next to Nugyati metro/railway in city center) or Mammut Mall (Buda side close to Szell Kalmann ter) visit Media Market. This electronics mega-store has data sim cards from all 3 carriers and at very competitive prices. I see them advertised in the weekly flyers all the time.

May be worth noting....

Best,

Jeremy
