Metro/Tram ticket checks

In an effort, I suppose, to force compliance/raise revenues, the Transportation authority has implemented a strong ticket check system. You now must show a validated ticket to get on the metro and in some cases (shifting spots) to leave the metro. The trams have random checks but by fully uniformed employees- who have heard it all. I watched an inspector wait patiently while one young woman ran the gamut of long rummages in her purse, tearful smiles and finally resignation as he removed her from the tram- possibly to get funds to pay her fine.

Our tickets were spot checked at least 6 times on the metro last weekend. The maximum fine is actually 16,000 huf.

While I think the use of "ticket inspectors" is ridiculous, I'm not understanding how showing your ticket is cumbersome.

As far as the fines, they're on http://www.bkv.hu/en/fines/fines.

Thanks for the link. The fine is 16,000 huf, which is what it says on all the trams, buses and metro, well it did last weekend. I agree, I don't mind having my ticket checked at all. The fares themselves are very reasonable and all forms of transport we used seemed clean, reliable and frequent.
