Try doing some searching on the forum, this has been asked before.

One of the postings mentions this place, no idea if they are still operational, or if they do hire: if not, they may know somewhere that does.

The recent issue of TimeOut Budapest has a very good article on disability access in Budapest, which unfortunately does not address this pretty regular question about where to rent access-related equipment while visiting. Nevertheless it identifies the national organization whose mandate is to help the disabled, and their email is:

meosz@meosz.hu

their webpage is in hungarian exclusively, but the contact information is at

http://www.meoszinfo.hu/index_17.php

there is a second email address there as well:

meosz@t-online.hu

i will write to them and see what they say

Here's what I got back:

Dear Mr. Farago,

Here in the Headquarters of National Federation of Disabled Persons' Associations we have a limited nr. of wheelchairs, hoists, wheelchair toilets, etc. and I can be available for hiring such devices, with limited capacity. Otherwise please see www.gurulo.hu English page.

Sincerely yours:

I looked at the ortoprofil site and sent them an email, which bounced. I also tried calling their posted number (from the US) and was similarly unsuccessful. Perhaps because it is a toll-free number it doesn't work for international calls.
