Thinking of going to Budapest early November, want to stop at a hotel thats central to everthing. Any Ideas?
The metro system is so good nothing is really too inconvenient; but i would stay in Pest and not in Buda. There is a lot to choose from in all price ranges. My preference is to suggest you go to Google Earth and locate the Parliament, an intersection on Andrassy ut called the Oktogon and the Great Market Hall. Each is easy to find using the Google Earth search. Then connect the points and stay within the triangle that they form (use the river for one of the lines). Now you are in the middle of most of what is to see in Pest and access to Buda is easy. Stay a little closer to the Great Market if you like to shop a lot. That will put you near the market and near Vaci utca. Stay closer to the parliament if you are more interested in Architecture as the Architecture in the Government and Embassy area is quite good. Stay closer to the Oktogon for performances at the Opera and Operett. But exxach extreme of the triangle has some of everything.
Oh, my preferences; either the Four Seasons or the K&K Opera.
