Day Trip to Vienna

We will be in Budapest for 4 days in June. Would it be worth it for one of those days to take a day trip to Vienna? Does anyone know approximate price for a return train ticket there. Isn't it only about 2 1/2 hours away?

Too much travel time to be sensible for a day trip, no matter the price.. By the time you have gotten to/from the train stations, plus the transit time between cities, you will not have time to see enough of Vienna to make the effort worthwhile. A weekend in Vienna isn't really enough. Additionally, four days in Budapest gives you just enough time to make that trip worthwhile!

Its technically do-able but not always pleasant for just one day. By the time you get to the train station and count the travel time, you've burned 6.5 - 7 hours, even if the train arrives on time (it does most of the time). The various trains take from 3 - 5 hours each way depending on which you choose. Round trip is about $50 US.

Granted you do get to meet lots of locals on the train but this leaves you little time in Vienna. The cities are close but not THAT close to make an easy one day trip.

Agree with the first poster...4 days is about right to "see" Budapest...I woudln't recommend any less.

Vienna in one part day (you'll spend at least 6 hours in transit and in transit to being in transit) is a waste of time...you need at least three.
