Piran June 2006

My girlfriend and I will be holidaying in piran/Portoroz in June 2006. We have planned visits to Venice and intend to go to the Skocjan Caves (I have heard these are better than the Postojna cave system).

Any other recommendations for places to visit?

I have also heard contradictory information on restaurant prices - some say expensive, some say cheap (good value), can anyone advise an approxprice for a 2 course meal + wine for 2 people in a reasonable restaurant (1 British Pound = approx 350 Slovenian Tolar)

How many days do you have left in the coast area after you do the trips to Venice and Skocjan Caves? I can give you lots of advice for additional activities in the coastal area.

Food in restaurants or in typical Slovenia "gostilnas" is very reasonably priced or even cheap compared to what I pay in UK for a similar meal. A 2-course meal with wine in a mid-scale restaurant in Slovenia should cost you around 20 GBP.

How long will you be in Slovenia for & what are your interests, active, sightseeing etc.

There are so many places to visit I would recommend renting a car, at least for a couple of days.

Piran is a lovely Venitian style port town with a variety of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets, you are going at the ideal time,-not too many tourists & potentially great weather.

Go to Postonja caves & enjoy the train journey & if you want to squeeze in Predjama castle on the way back you will not be disapointed, check out the Slovenia tourist board website.

While you are in Portoroz visit the casino, you won't need directions & even if you arent a gambler the restaurant and bar are great value - smart dress required.

If this is your first visit it won't be your last!
