First Skiing family holiday - how suitable is Bohinj

We are about to book our first family skiing holiday - 5 persons - parents (first time skiiers) and 3 teenagers (intermediate skiiers). I was originally looking at Lake Bled, but I am now changing my mind to Bohinj as the likelihood of snow at UK half term (mid Feb) looks better. I am put off other European ski resorts because the price looks extortionate and the queues look too long - of course having to travel at half term is adding to both. Is Slovenia a good idea and is Bohinj suitable for a family skiing holiday? I don't expect the nightlife to be wild, but are there a couple of bars / restaurants etc for a spot of socialising in the evening. Also, what are the prices like in general?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Bled, Bohinj, Maribor, Kranjska gora, not to miss Krvavec hotel A&S!

Costs in Slovenia general are low! Our salaries are 3x smaller as in UK!

I used to work as rep for a british tour operator in Bohinj ( years ago) and was based in the Hotel Zlatorog which is at the far end of the lake in Ukanc. It is closer to the gondola which takes you up to the mount Vogel where most of the ski runs are.

I liked the location of the hotel and the fact that is has an idoor pool / sauna which is always nice after skiing. If you are travelling with the tour operator they will have some evening outings organised or you can book a taxi and go to the other side of the lake or even maybe Bled. I prefered Bohinj to Lake Bled.

One thing that Slovenia is great about is the superb quality of ski tuitions and all ski instructors speak fluent english. It is the right place to learn to ski ( I have worked in Italy and Austria so can compare) and I am sure you will all enjoy it and have fun.

Prices are reasonable enough to enjoy the local food and drink as well.

Other place you might consider is Kranjska Gora. It is more lively , good for beginners and intermediates and has more apres-ski activities.

Enjoy your skiing experince !
