Where to Stay

What are good areas to stay in Warsaw? We like to walk a lot and we want to book a hotel in an area where we can do that and see a lot. We are only in Warsaw for 2 nights and wish to maximize our stay and see as much as possible. And also we do not wish to be to far away from the train station as we are coming from Berlin by train and then going to Krakow by train.

What is the best way of getting to Krakow from Warsaw and do we need to buy tickets in advance?

Hey Kate S:-) WIth only 2 nights which will give you 1 full day of exploring.. I'd opt for the Mariott which is smack across the Street from the train station.. super convenient coming and going from City;-) Best.. and enJOY!

I would opt for the Bristol or Sofitel. Both are upmarket but their location can't be beaten (located in Warsaw's most beautiful and exlcusive quarter and near most sights and restaurants). If you want to be near the main station, the Marriott, Intercontinental, Mercure Centrum, Polonia Palace or Novotel Centrum are the best choices. Warsaw has good public transport and a bus ride from the other two hotels takes about 10 minutes.

polonia palac.....for the price you cant beat it......right accross the street from the train station.....all forms of public transportation converge right there....historic old hotel with the best breakfast in town....lots of non touristy restaurants in the blocks behind the hotel.....the hyatt is a bit far out but the bus stops right there and you are in the historic area after 5 stops.....fantastic american style bathrooms and excellent american style service.....a few excellent polish restaurants nearby as well as the wonderful lazienki park....depending on the price i sometimes stay there.....during weekend and the summertime ,if nothing going on in town, the hotels are deeply discounted because the diplomats and bidness men are out of town

Apart from already mentioned hotels (Sofitel-Victoria, Bristol, Polonia, Mariott) you can also consider Intercontinental: next to the central train station + a view which cannot be beatten (swimming pool at 30-th floor).

As for the sencond question (going to Krakow): take a train. It takes 2.5h, is comfortable, and takes you from a city center to a city center.

With all that was mentioned, don't worry about the train station. All the hotels are convenient or a short bus ride away. Check the discounter websites, hotelscombined.com or trivago.pl and snag one of the better hotels for a great price. Make sure you have breakfast included in the price. These places have the best breakfasts in Europe.
